Full Confession (Submitted Anonymously) - I love the subculture, music, and fashion but I live in a small town area where it’s unsafe to dress goth. I was physically assaulted once. The only connection I have to the subculture is online. Several goths have said because of this I’m not goth enough or been very mean to me because of this. I’m sorry, but I’m not putting my life in danger just to live up to elite standards. Though I admit I do dream of the day where I get out of this awful place and can safely be who I want to be.
I loathe the term “weekender”. Some of us aren’t lucky enough to be able to stay at home since our partner/spouse can support the two of us. Some of us work at jobs with a strict dress code. The cards fall that way sometimes. And, we have to do whatever we can to pay rent and put food on the table. You’re not special or better than anyone else in the subculture because you can dress uber Gothy whenever you please. Not EVERY Goth is a “24/7 Goth”.
BUT COLLEGE IS NEARLY OVER :)
